Amy Jade Winehouse is the latest musical talent to enter Club 27, as she died at the age of 27. She was an English singer and songwriter. She not only focused on one single musical genre, but various which include jazz, soul and R&B. Amy Winehouse was truly a very talented British artist, who released two very successful albums. In 2003, she released Frank which saw a great surge in interest, but in 2006 her second album was what gave her the fame she deserved. Her second studio album, Back to Black was given six Grammy nominations and five wins. This was the first time ever that a female singer won the most number of Awards in one single night.
Amy Winehouse’s second album gave her wins for Best British Female Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist. These are just five of the awards she has won, as there are many more we have not yet mentioned. Amy has been known to revitalize the music industry in Britain. From the year 2007 up until her death in 2011, Amy Winehouse was a regular tabloid news topic. She was involved in many drug and alcohol issues along with her abnormal behaviours. Her boyfriend got into legal troubles and was put in jail. 2008 was a big year for her as that was when she realized that her drug and alcohol use made a significant impact on her life.
Winehouse was found dead at her London home at the age of 27, which makes her the latest addition to Forever 27 Club. The cause of death has still not been confirmed by police, as the death only took place in the past week. Amy has gone through a lot of trouble in terms of mental health. Much of the media attention towards her was from her increased substance use. The family says that a 2006 death of her close grandmother set off the increase in drug and alcohol use. She was put into rehab and recovery centers, but that did not help at all. She would go in for a while, but then be back out and on the market doing drugs. Her problems escalated over the years and 2011 was when it was all ended.
Her body was found by one of her security professionals at her home. She was pronounced dead at the scene when ambulance got there. Ambulance officials were called in at 3:54PM on July 23rd 2011. Amy Winehouse now joins the other dozens of musical talents in Club 27. She along with a number of inspirational artists died at the young age of 27. She was such a talented artist, who could have achieved much more in life, if it wasn’t for her drug and alcohol use.
