Janis Joplin
Janis Joplin who is officially known as Janis Lyn Joplin is an American songwriter, music artist, dancer and painter. She was born on January 19, 1943 in Port Arthur, Texas. She was raised by her mother, Dorothy Joplin and her father Seth Joplin. Her mother always stated that Janis needed more attention than the other two siblings, Michael and Laura. Janis found it that it was hard to live life without the extra attention. Janis met with various musical inspirations throughout her young teenage years, such as Bessie Smith. This influenced her to become a singer. In school, Janis began by singing with the school choir, but that soon went on to outside events.
In her high school years, Janis was a painter who regularly sang folk music with her friends. Soon enough, people around her realized that she had an incredible talent to sing and create music of her own. Even though she was a musical gem, she was very much hater on during her teenage years. She became overweight and had acne scars on her face. The children at her high school would call her names and make fun of her on a regular basis. Famous coach Jimmy Johnson was one of her high school classmates as well. She then went onto College, but did not complete her degree. Janis was very different throughout her life, as she didn’t do what the others did.
The rock band, Big Brother and the Holding Company noticed the fabulous talent that Janis Joplin had in blues and vocal. They were very impressed by her talent so they took her into their band. She was warned that no drug use would be permitted once she was a member of the band, and she obliged. Throughout the sixties, the band signed onto labels and recorded various hit albums. The band went on tours around the country in hopes of making it big in the music scene. The Big Brother and the Holding Company soon split up causing Joplin to create her own group known as the Kozmic Blues Band. Janis became a major hit around the world once she became a solo artist.
At the peak of her music career, she was regarded as the queen of rock and roll. In the 2004 edition of the Rolling Stones magazine, Janis Joplin is ranked as the top forty six in terms of the all time best music artist. Her last music recordings include Mercedes Benz and a birthday song for John Lennon. Janis was supposed to go for a recording session at the Sunset Sound Recorders Studio, and when the producer noticed she had not come in, he became worried. When producer, Paul Rothchild went to her residence, she was found dead at the side of her bead. The cause of the death was due to an overdose in heroin. She now joins the Club 27, as she died at the age of 27. The Forever Club 27 is dedicated to the greatest music artists who died at the age of twenty-seven.
